The rear window of a car flew off the vehicle and shattered on a busy highway in the capital, police said on Monday.
The incident was caught on camera and indicated that the motorist had been driving at 187kph when it happened.
Lt Col Abdullah Al Suwaidi, from the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, said the footage from the speed camera helped patrols quickly catch the offender.
“The rear window glass of the car came out of its place while the vehicle was moving at 187kph, exceeding the speed limit," said Lt Col Al Suwaidi
“Investigations revealed that the rear windscreen was replaced and reinstalled incorrectly," he said.
Lt Col Al Suwaidi urged motorists to ensure their vehicle is safe for use before driving to protect other road users.
