Biennial is taking place in Sharjah Art Spaces in the emirate’s heritage area until June 5
Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah officially inaugurated the Sharjah Biennial 12 (SB12) Thursday at the Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF).
Taking place until June 5, the biennial, which is curated by Eungie Joo with associate curator Ryan Inouye, includes works by more than fifty artists and cultural practitioners from twenty-five countries.
“A biennial is a site of experimentation for artists and of discovery for audiences,” said Shaikha Noor Al Qasimi, president of SAF and director of SB12.
She said SB12 has always placed a strong emphasis on offering artists the opportunity to imagine and create new projects and its success has been reflected by the appreciation of the audience at every edition.
Under the theme ‘The past, the present, the possible,’ SB12 invites participants and the public to reflect upon the possibilities and ambitions of Sharjah, a city still in the process of imagining itself through education, culture, religion, heritage and science.
Art pieces, media installations and performances, including a mix of dance, theatre, and live music will take place at the SAF’s art spaces in the heritage area of Sharjah.
