The National -- With 8.43 million followers, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, is the most followed Arab leader on Twitter and the tenth most followed world leader.
The US President Donald Trump has replaced Pope Francis as the most followed world leader in the list by @Twiplomacy, an account run by the public relations firm Burson-Marsteller.
Since the study's data was collected on Oct1, Donald Trump has topped 40 million followers on his personal account @realDonaldTrump. He is also ranked fifth with the President’s official @POTUS account, which has 20.6 million followers.
In May, Pope Francis (@Pontifex) was the most followed world leader.
Prime Minister Modi holds the third and forth spots with his personal account @narendramodi, followed by 35.1 million, and his office @PMOIndia, followed by 21.4 million.
Other world leaders in the ranked in the top ten list include the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, India’s Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Jordan’s Queen Rania is the the second most followed female world leader after Sushma Swaraj and the second most followed Arab leader with 8.11 million followers. Saudi Arabia’s King Salman is third on the list of Arab leaders with 6.63 million followers. He was the second most followed Arab leader in 2016 and in May was ranked as the most effective world leader on Twitter based on retweets of his original tweets.
