Country accounts for 19 per cent of total rooms under construction in region

More than 1,000 hotel rooms became active in the UAE in November 2015, as three global hotel brands entered the Dubai and Sharjah markets to benefit from the growth of tourism in the country.
The hospitality sector in Dubai has witnessed the entry of 618 rooms and new hotel apartments, as the sector is targeting roughly 92,000 rooms by the end of this year, compared with 76,000 during the first half of the year. In Sharjah, 349 new hotel rooms were opened this month with the launch of Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, in line with the emirate’s plan to raise capacity to 15,000 hotel rooms by 2020. According to a report issued by STR Global, the hotel sector in the state accounted for 19 per cent (or 103,749 rooms) of the total hotel rooms under construction in the Middle East, reports UAE-based Aliqtisadi.
