WAM -- The volume of trade between the UAE and Belarus is expected to increase in the near future up from US$28 million in 2015, driven by the common desire of both countries for better economic relations, Under-Secretary for Economic Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Economy, Mohammed Ahmed Al Shehhi, said on Tuesday.

The UAE-Belarus Joint Economic Commission, set to hold a third meeting this month, has made relevant plans and highlighted opportunities for opening new venues of co-operation and partnership in investment, finance, banking, insurance, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and other sectors, Al Shehhi said during a meeting with Ambassador of Belarus to the UAE, Roman Golovchenko.

Outlining the UAE's economic achievements, the UAE official noted that the country was the least impacted economy by falling oil prices and remains the best-performing in this region thanks to economic diversification policies and high volumes of cash reserves.

Expo 2020 Dubai will play a role in ensuring intensive flow of investments to the UAE, he further noted.

The Belarus Ambassador noted that his country is interested in stronger co-operation with the UAE in chemicals trade where Belarus has a powerful chemical industry.
