The Emirates marks its 14th Flag Day on November 3, with nationwide ceremonies, the return of the Flag Garden at Umm Suqeim Beach and a special illuminated drone display at Global Village
The United Arab Emirates is celebrating its 14th UAE Flag Day today, Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Across the seven emirates, government institutions, schools, businesses and communities are taking part in the annual occasion, which celebrates the country’s unity, national identity and shared values.
The day begins a month of nationwide celebrations leading up to Eid Al Etihad, the UAE’s 55th National Day, on December 2. While Flag Day is not an official public holiday and schools and offices remain open, residents are invited to participate in ceremonies and public events — or simply display the national flag at home.
Here is where and how to mark the occasion in Dubai.
The Nationwide Flag-Raising at 11am
The central moment of UAE Flag Day takes place at 11am, when government entities, schools, universities, offices and organisations across all seven emirates raise the national flag simultaneously.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has called on citizens, residents, government institutions, educational establishments and families to take part in the ceremony.
The annual flag-raising is an opportunity for the country to come together in a shared expression of pride and loyalty. It also honours the sacrifices, achievements and vision that have shaped the UAE since its formation.
Global Village: A Spectacular Drone Show at 8pm
One of the main public celebrations will take place at Global Village, where 1,000 illuminated drones are set to take to the sky above the Main Stage at 8pm.
The drones will create large-scale formations in the four colours of the UAE flag — red, green, white and black. Visitors will receive UAE flags on arrival, while national-colour decorations and illuminations will appear throughout the destination. The Carnaval wheel and other landmarks will also be lit up for the occasion.
The UAE Pavilion will offer an opportunity to explore Emirati heritage through traditional handicrafts, locally made products and authentic food.
Visitors should note that Tuesdays at Global Village are traditionally reserved for ladies and families, in accordance with the destination’s visitor policy.
UAE Flag Garden Returns to Umm Suqeim Beach
The much-anticipated UAE Flag Garden has returned to Umm Suqeim Beach, next to the iconic Burj Al Arab, for its 13th year.
More than 11,000 UAE flags have been arranged in a large-scale outdoor installation. Viewed from above, the display pays tribute to the country’s Founding Fathers, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The design changes every year, with the latest arrangement adding a new visual interpretation to the annual installation.
Visitors can walk among the flags and enjoy dedicated viewing points overlooking the display, with the Burj Al Arab providing a distinctive backdrop.
Organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, the Flag Garden is free to visit and is scheduled to remain open until January.
Celebrate at Home: Display the UAE Flag
Taking part in Flag Day does not require visiting a public event. Residents can join the celebrations by displaying the national flag on their balconies, at their homes, villas or on their vehicles.
The UAE Flag Guidelines set out standards for the proper display and care of the national symbol. Flags should be kept clean and in good condition, while torn, faded or discoloured flags should be replaced.
What do the colours of the UAE Flag represent?
Designed by Abdullah Mohammed Al Maainah, the UAE flag was first raised on December 2, 1971, when the federation was established.
Its four colours carry symbolic meanings: red represents courage, bravery and strength; green symbolises hope and prosperity; white stands for peace and honesty; and black reflects strength of mind.
Together, the colours embody the values and aspirations of the nation, serving as a reminder of the unity and determination behind the formation and development of the UAE.
From Flag Day to Eid Al Etihad: A Month of National Celebrations
UAE Flag Day marks the beginning of a particularly significant period in the country's calendar. The weeks ahead will build towards Eid Al Etihad on Wednesday, December 2, when the UAE celebrates 55 years since its formation in 1971.
The celebrations will continue beyond National Day, with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Formula 1 season finale, scheduled to take place from December 3 to 6.
From the synchronized flag-raising ceremonies to the illuminated drone formations at Global Village, Flag Day offers residents and visitors an opportunity to celebrate the UAE's history, identity and achievements. Above all, it is a reminder that the national flag represents more than a symbol: it reflects the shared story of a country built on unity, ambition and the contributions of the people who call it home.
