Dubai named in top 10 cities to visit in the world in 2020 by Lonely Planet

Dubai has been named as the ninth best city in the world to visit next year by the travel experts at Lonely Planet.

The "boundary pushing” emirate is listed in the Top 10 cities for travellers in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2020, a yearly curation of destinations and experiences in travel covering the next twelve months.

World's oldest natural pearl found in Abu Dhabi

Archaeologists have discovered what is believed to be the world's oldest natural pearl, on an island off Abu Dhabi.

The 8,000-year-old gemstone was unearthed on Marawah Island, which lies just off the coast of Mirfa town, about 170 kilometres west of Abu Dhabi city.

Using carbon dating, archaeologists from the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi deduced the pearl dates from 5,800 to 5,600BC.

All of Dubai’s taxis are now fitted with security cameras, the Roads and Transport Authority said on Sunday.

“Security cameras have been installed in 10,684 taxis comprising the entire taxi fleet in Dubai,” said Khaled Al Awadi, the authority’s director of transportation systems.
