Tourists may be able to visit Russia without a securing a visa if they’re travelling to watch two major sports events. Travellers, however, must secure the necessary pass, including a valid ticket, in order to avail themselves of visa-free entry.

It was reported last year that Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the visa-free system for 2018 World Cup fans.

The policy applies to fans travelling to Russia for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017, scheduled between June 17, 2017 and July 2, 2017 and the FIFA 2018 World Cup, set to take place from June 14 to July 15, 2018.

In order to be admitted to Russia, foreign citizens who have tickets must also have a valid identity document (“tourist” passport) and a “personalised card of the spectator” (FAN ID) issued by the Russian government. This will be allowed to enter Russia without a visa for the period surrounding the tournament, according to the legislation published online.
