Cigarettes will display new markings from next month to help tackle fraud in the tobacco industry.
Red stickers will feature on packets sold in the UAE from August 1 to show tax has been paid by the importer, while green stickers are to be placed on duty-free cigarettes.
The move will help to "protect consumers from low-quality products, combat tax evasion, and ensure that the Excise Tax due on these products has been settled," the Federal Tax Authority said.

Dubai International Airport suffered a partial power cut on Monday leaving passengers sweating when the air conditioning shut down.
The system failure in Terminal 3 happened just after 11am and lasted half an hour, an airport spokesman said.
There were no reports of flight disruption and other terminals were unaffected.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the UAE’s nuclear regulator, has officially certified the first group of 15 Emirati reactor operators at Nawah Energy Company, the operations and maintenance subsidiary of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC).
