UNWTO: International Tourism Arrivals Hit Record High in 2017

Growth in arrivals was echoed by generated by UNWTO Tourism Highlights 2018 Edition’ shows that international tourist arrivals reached a total of 1,323 million in 2017, some 84 million more than the previous year and a new record. The sector has now seen uninterrupted growth in arrivals for eight straight years. 2017’s growth was the highest since 2010, led by the regions of Europe and Africa, which received increases in arrivals of 8% and 9%, respectively.

UAE September fuel prices: petrol and diesel to increase marginally

Petrol prices in the UAE will marginally increase in September, ENOC announced today.

Here's the breakdown:

• Super 98: Dh2.59 a litre (up from Dh2.57 in July)

• Special 95: Dh2.48 (up from Dh2.46)

• Diesel: Dh2.64 (up from Dh2.63)

Since the start of the year, the price at the petrol pumps has been steadily increasing, despite a blip in July.

Fuel prices were liberalised about two years ago, so they now move with the market.

Revealed: the importance of Dubai to Middle East tourism

Dubai's international tourism receipts reached AED77.5 billion ($21.1 billion) last year, making up nearly a third of the Middle East total, according to a new report.

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation's (UNWTO) latest annual report showed that Dubai receipts represented 31.1 percent of the total in the Middle East in 2017, and were 8 percent higher than the previous year.

Japan enlists Airbus and Saudi-backed Uber in flying-car plan

Japan is making a push to develop flying cars, enlisting companies including Uber Technologies and Boeing in a government-led group to bring airborne vehicles to the country in the next decade.

World’s 1st Autonomous Taxi Starts Operating in Tokyo (Video)

The vehicle, developed by Tokyo-based robot maker ZMP and operated by taxi company Hinomaru Kotsu, ferries passengers along a set 5.3 km route starting near Tokyo Station and ending in the Roppongi entertainment district, Nikkei reported.

The big switch to more efficient lighting is paying off for Dubai.

Transport chiefs say they cut harmful carbon emissions by 5,430 tonnes and saved 12 gigawatt hours in energy last year.
