Gulf News -- Double digit numbers W22 and T32 went for a combined price of Dh4.3 million at the Roads and Transport Authority’s 98th number plates auction on Saturday.

Among the 80 special number plates up for grabs W22 attracted the highest bid of Dh2.62 million, followed by T32, which for Dh1.68 million.

Apart from the two double digit numbers, attractive three, four and five digit plates were also on offer.

The National -- Excavation for a subway tunnel, a vital section of the Route 2020 metro project, is now 50 per cent complete, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority said on Saturday.

Construction for the 3.2km tunnel between Discovery Gardens and Green Community began five months ago and will form part of a 15 kilometre extension of the Dubai Metro to the Expo 2020 site.

The National -- The Tobacco Atlas report of 2018 has warned of the growth of markets supporting illicit ‘white’ cigarettes claiming a third of manufacturers are operating from free trade zones.

Cheap whites, or illicit whites, are products made legally in a factory with the approval of an overseas licensing authority, but may fall short of product standards in the country where they are ultimately sold.
