Good news for motorists as UAE fuel prices fall in March

The National -- There was good news for motorists on Wednesday as the price of fuel has dropped slightly for March:

Super 98 decreased to 2.33 a litre from 2.36 in February.

Special 95 is 2.22, down from 2.25

E-Plus 91 is 2.14 which fell from 2.17

Diesel will be 2.43, falling from 2.49

The new prices were announced by the Ministry of Energy and Industry on Wednesday and are inclusive of 5 per cent VAT.

Dubai airport to reduce capacity as southern runway to close for 45 days

The National -- Dubai International Airport will close one of its two runways for 45 days next year for upgrade work, temporarily reducing capacity at the world’s busiest airport for international travellers, its operator said on Monday.

The southern runway will be closed from April 16 to May 30, 2019 for resurfacing and replacement of ground lighting and other infrastructure, Dubai Airports said.

Dubai hits a record 15.8 million visitors in 2017

Dubai has recorded a strong 6.2 percent year-on-year increase in international overnight visitation in 2017, accelerating the 5 percent growth witnessed in the previous year and propelling the emirate’s momentum towards its 2020 goal of welcoming 20 million visitors per year. According to the latest data published by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai Tourism, a total of 15.79 million tourists visited Dubai last year, setting a new record for the emirate.

Sridevi drowned in bathtub while under influence of alcohol

The National -- Bollywood actress Sridevi Kapoor died of accidental drowning in her hotel room bathtub while under the influence of alcohol, a forensic report revealed on Monday.

Traces of alcohol were found in the body of the 54-year-old actress who lost consciousness before drowning in her bathroom at Emirates Towers hotel in Dubai on Saturday night, the report said.

It is just one metre taller than the 77-storey JW Marriott Marquis, but the new Gevora Hotel on 101 Sheikh Zayed Road is officially the world's tallest hotel (as a single building). It stands 356 metres above the ground.

The homegrown, independently run hotel opened in the middle of February, but they have just announced that they will be charging Dh100 for people to visit their rooftop, which offers Burj Khalifa and Emirates Towers views.
