The National -- Meraas, the developer behind Last Exit, City Walk, La Mer and more, have just opened a new alfresco hangout in Al Khawaneej.

China's Li Haotong secured the biggest title of his young career on Sunday, a blistering finish helping him see off the challenge of Rory McIlroy to win the $3 million Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
Li led by a stroke overnight but wobbled in his final round before a strong finish gave him a three-under-par 69 — secured with a birdie at the last — for a winning total of 265, 23 under par.

UAE petrol prices to rise in February

The National -- Drivers in the UAE will pay more at the pumps to fill up their cars from February 1.
The Ministry of Energy announced this morning that Super 98 will rise to Dh2.36 a litre - an increase of 5 per cent; Super 95 will be Dh2.25, up from Dh2.12 - a rise of 6 per cent; E-Plus 91 will be Dh2.17 - up 5.8 per cent.
The cost of diesel meanwhile will be Dh2.49 per litre - an increase of nearly 7 per cent from January.

The National -- Najmat Taiba (Star of Taiba), the world’s largest gold ring recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records, is on display at Sahara Centre, Sharjah.

The National -- On Sunday the death of Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the mother of Sheikh Khalifa, was announced, as was an official three day mourning period.

Gulf News -- A Yahsat official has confirmed the launch of Al Yah-3 satellite mission, and that the third satellite in the company’s fleet is "healthy".
In a tweet, the company's official handle confirmed the launch of the 3,790-kg Al Yah-3 satellite on board the European rocket Ariane 5.
"The launch is a key milestone in Yahsat’s strategy to expand its Ka-band coverage across Africa and to establish a presence in Latin America," the tweet stated.
