The National -- Electric transport such as buses, cars and taxis designed by Masdar City, Tesla, Lexus and Nissan were not the only vehicles on show at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi this week.

One of the more eye-catching designs was the one-man mini seaplane designed by Finnish company FlyNano.

With a top speed of 120kph, and the ability to reach an altitude of 150 metres, the low-flying craft is not for the faint hearted.

Fin24 -- This is according to a statement from Gem Diamonds, a British-based diamond company listed on the London Stock Exchange. It has operations in both Botswana, where it owns Ghaghoo mine, and Lesotho, where it owns 70% of the Letšeng Diamond Mine.

Qatar fighter jets intercept second UAE passenger plane

The National -- Qatari fighter jets "intentionally" intercepted two UAE passenger planes flying to Manama on Monday morning, said the head of the Emirates' General Authority of Civil Aviation.

Saif Al Suweidi said the first interception took place at 10.30am and the second at 11am.

Both planes landed safely in the Bahraini capital and were able to complete their return flights back to the UAE without incident. There were no reported injuries or deaths.

The National -- Half of the child subjects in a social experiment voluntarily walked off with strangers, in a result the authorities hope will remind parents to be more vigilant.

Sharjah Police and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs carried out a test in which psychologists approached young children to highlight a lack of awareness among youngsters and parents.

The National -- A Pegasus airplane has skidded off the runway on Sunday after landing in the Turkish province of Trabzon, causing panic among the passengers.

According to reports the aircraft flying from Ankara to Trabzon went off the tarmac after landing and came to a halt just short of the edge of the sea.

A new safety rating by the Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre, or JACDEC, crowned Emirates Airlines as the world’s safest airline. In a study published in aviation magazine Aero International, Emirates scored 93.61 percent on the Jacdec risk index, ahead of Norwegian Air Shuttle (93.26 percent) and the United Kingdom’s Virgin Atlantic Airways (92.87 percent).
