Sharjah Library forms digital link with British Library

Gulf News -- The Sharjah Public Library, a subsidiary of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), will provide digital access to thousands of rare books and periodicals on Arabic and Islamic culture, which are held at the British Library in London.

New VAT law approved

The National -- The landmark law paving the way for the introduction of VAT from January next year has been approved by the President, Sheikh Khalifa.

The law states that goods and services are subject to value added tax at a standard rate of 5 per cent – and outlines a series of exclusions.

Archaeologists shed new light on life in the UAE 5,000 years ago

Archaeological work by a team of local and international experts has restarted after 30 years on a culturally and historically significant site in Al Ain which is reputed to be one of the earliest agricultural-based villages in the United Arab Emirates.

RTA endorsed a contract for procuring 554 hybrid vehicles

Gulf News – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has endorsed a contract for procuring 554 environment-friendly hybrid vehicles fitted with a combination of fuel engines and electric motors.

The move is part of a masterplan to curb the pollution from vehicle exhausts and make vehicles friendly to the environment of Dubai.

Eid holidays for private sector in UAE announced

Gulf News – All private sector employees in the UAE will have three-day paid holidays starting on Thursday, August 31, until Saturday, September, 2, on account of Eid Al-Adha, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced on Thursday.

The announcement was made in a Ministerial Circular issued by Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

flydubai’s network in Russia expands to ten destinations

Dubai-based flydubai today announced the addition of three destinations to its Russian network, bringing its presence in the country to ten points. This autumn, the airline will launch flights to Makhachkala and Voronezh and resume services to Ufa.
