At Watches and Wonders Geneva, IWC Schaffhausen continues to shape the modern identity of the Ingenieur with two new additions to the Ingenieur Automatic 35 collection. Compact in scale yet considered in execution, the latest releases reflect a growing emphasis on proportion, wearability and quiet design confidence.
One interpretation introduces a more expressive dimension: a bezel in 18-carat 5N gold set with 45 white diamonds. The other returns to one of the maison’s most enduring signatures — a deep blue dial. Both are housed in 35mm stainless steel cases, paired with integrated bracelets whose polished centre links lend a subtle sense of refinement.

The Ingenieur Automatic 35 itself remains one of the most resolved expressions of the collection today. At 35mm in diameter and just 9.4mm thick, it balances presence with restraint. Crucially, the reduction in size does not come at the expense of identity. The Gérald Genta design language remains intact: the bezel secured by five functional screws, the seamless integration of the bracelet, and the structured “Grid” dial with applied markers. These are not nostalgic gestures, but enduring codes reinterpreted with clarity.

The diamond-set Ingenieur Automatic 35 (Ref. IW324911) marks a notable first for the current line. Its gold bezel, set with 45 diamonds totalling 0.7 carats, introduces a layer of polish without compromising the watch’s inherently sporty character. The contrast between gold and steel is deliberate, adding depth rather than excess. A silver-plated “Grid” dial anchors the composition, while gold-plated hands and appliqués, enhanced with Super-LumiNova®, maintain legibility and balance.

The second novelty, Ingenieur Automatic 35 (Ref. IW324907), feels more understated, yet no less considered. Its deep blue dial revisits a colour long associated with IWC, dating back to the late 1960s and early Ingenieur references such as the 866AD. Today, blue is ubiquitous, but here it is handled with restraint—textured, насыщенный, and quietly assertive. Paired with a stainless steel case and bracelet, it offers a cohesive, contemporary take on a familiar code.
Across both models, finishing plays a central role. The interplay of satin-brushed and polished surfaces across the case and bezel creates a controlled dynamism, while the bracelet’s H-shaped links and polished centres reinforce the watch’s architectural clarity.

Turn the watch over, and the perspective shifts. A sapphire case back reveals the automatic Calibre 47110, offering a 42-hour power reserve. Circular graining, Geneva stripes and a gold-plated oscillating weight underscore IWC’s commitment to mechanical integrity - discreet, but unmistakable.
With these additions, IWC does not attempt to redefine the Ingenieur. Instead, it refines it, expanding its vocabulary while remaining firmly within its design language. In a landscape often driven by excess, that restraint feels increasingly deliberate.
