Major Deira-bound bridge on Airport Road opens on Friday

Gulf News -- The long-awaited Deira-bound bridge at Marrakech Intersection (adjacent to Emirates airline headquarters) on Airport Road to ease traffic open on Friday, said officials.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) made the announcement on Thursday as part of the second contract of the Airport Road Improvement Project, a Dh404-million initiative to accommodate a surge in the number of airport passengers expected to surpass 92 million by 2020.

Speed limit on Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed and Emirates Roads reduced

WAM -- Maximum speed limit on two major highways of Dubai, the Mohammad Bin Zayed road and the Emirates (Bypass) road, has been reduced from 120kmph to 110kmph, with effect from October 15, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Wednesday

The RTA and Dubai Police jointly took the decision to reduce the speed limit on the busy highways following a spate in accidents over the last couple of years.

The National -- Francis Matthew, the editor-at-large of Gulf News, will go on trial at Dubai Criminal Court on September 27 to face charges that he carried out the premeditated killing of his wife.

The British expat, 60, will stand accused of murdering the 62-year-old with a hammer at their home in Jumeirah on July 3.

Police were called to their home by Matthew on July 4, who reported that she had been assaulted by thieves. Prosecutors later said this was not the case.
