Emirates airline issues ticket scam warning

Emirates airline has issued a warning against signing up to a bogus competition to mark the carrier’s founding anniversary.

Online con-artists are promising two free air tickets to 500 customers to celebrate the airline’s 32nd anniversary by posting bogus competitions on Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter.

Although Emirates has not offered any specific details about the scam, it has been flagged by security news bloggers online.

Dubai’s cruise terminal at Mina Rashid has more than doubled the number of cruise tourists it receives since it opened in four years ago.

Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal, managed by DP World, welcomed more than 625,000 holiday-makers in 2016-17 season, up from 320,000 cruise tourists that arrived in Dubai in the 2013-14 season.

The number of cruise visitors is expected to top 700,000 in the 2018-2019 season.

The historic ocean liner QE2 will open to guests as a floating hotel in Dubai next Wednesday.

It is believed that April 18 represents a soft launch, which will be followed by a more formal opening later in the year.

Dubai Duty Free announced first quarter sales of Dhs1.91 billion representing an 11% over the same period last year and signaling a positive start to 2018 on the back of record sales of Dhs7.05 billion in 2017.

Sales for March reached a new monthly record of Dhs660.36 million, which represents a 10% increase over March 2017. So far this year, monthly sales are in excess of Dhs600 million, with an average daily sale of Dhs21.23 million.
