The National -- The vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, attended initial tests of the world’s first autonomous pods. The project has been developed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in cooperation with Next Future Transportation.

The National -- The long-awaited new SUV from Rolls-Royce will be called the Cullinan, the British brand has announced.

The super-luxury vehicle, which will be the first SUV by the grand old carmaker, is not being officially labelled an SUV: the company is, instead, referring to is as "high-sided vehicle".

It had previously been developed under the project name Cullinan, but it had been expected that it would be given a new name.

22 illegal immigrants caught trying to enter UAE in cement mixer

The National -- A cement mixer driver was caught trying to smuggle 22 illegal immigrants into the country at the Khatam customs centre, police said on Tuesday.

Last week, the federal customs authority and Sharjah Police discovered the stowaways, who included a girl of African origin and 21 Asians, hiding in the cement mixer of the vehicle.

Customs were tipped off about the illegal smuggling attempt and so stepped up inspections at the border.

The National -- Five people including two children died when they were asphyxiated in a fire that gutted part of their apartment building early on Monday morning.

Sharjah Civil Defence director Colonel Sami Al Naqbi said that the victims perished while trying to escape.

The National -- Now you can take a shuttle bus from Dubai airport to Ras Al Khaimah.

It's the latest move to boost tourism and make it easier for people to visit the emirate.

The National -- Saudi women need not wear the abaya, a senior member of the country's top clerical body has said.

The move comes amid reform attempts — including greater freedoms for women — being led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
