Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed announces Dh50 billion stimulus for Abu Dhabi

A massive Dh50 billion stimulus package for Abu Dhabi has been announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince.

Officials have been given just 90 days to create a detailed execution plan for the package, which seeks to transform the ease of doing business, and bring lasting economic benefits to Emiratis, residents and investors.

At the heart of the announcement are 10 initiatives, with the aim of accelerating the economy over the next three years.

First Mers virus case of 2018 detected in UAE

A new Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers-CoV) virus patient has been confirmed in the UAE, according to World Health Organization. The patient - a 78-year-old man - was suffering from fever, cough and shortness of breath since May 4 and was brought to hospital on May 13. The Address Downtown Dubai hotel is back in business, finally welcoming overnight guests two years after a fire extensively damaged the property.

The hotel, which is part of the Emaar Hospitality Group’s Address Hotels and Resorts brand, has long been one of the emirate’s most popular options for travellers, but it hasn’t been fully operational since New Year’s Eve 2016 when an electrical short circuit set the 63-storey tower ablaze, leaving 15 people injured.

World Cup football fans can now sign-up to match packages provided by Etisalat and du.

Subscribers of Eisalat can sign-up on channel 777 and take on a one-off standalone fee of Dh555, excluding VAT, to view all 64 FIFA World Cup games from Russia this month.

Charges are about Dh100 more than four years ago when the tournament was staged in Brazil.

Tom Cruise has praised the UAE for its help in creating “one of his most dangerous stunts yet”.

Cruise made the halo jump – a military free-fall manoeuvre designed to get troops on the ground undetected – for a scene in his upcoming movie, Mission Impossible: Fallout, which was filmed in Abu Dhabi, among other locations.

Cruise had to jump out of a plane at 7,600 metres over the Abu Dhabi desert and wait until he was below 600m to pull his parachute for the stunt.
