Fraudsters try to withdraw $24 million using fake cheque in Abu Dhabi

Gulf News -- Abu Dhabi Police have arrested four people who were trying to withdraw $24 million from a UAE local bank through a counterfeit cheque.

The gang of four, who deposited the cheque, mentioning that it was issued to them by a hospital in the country.

Police arrested the criminals when they were trying to withdraw money through the fake cheque, said Brigadier General Dr Rashid Mohammed Borsheed, Director of CID in the Criminal Security Sector of Abu Dhabi Police.

Two Emirati pilots die in Yemen crash

The National -- Two Emirati pilots died when their aircraft crashed in Yemen, the UAE Armed Forces said on Tuesday evening.

Major Pilot Ali Al Mesmari and First Lieutenant Pilot Badr Al Marasheda were killed as a result of the accident, which was caused by a technical fault, the General Command said.

The National -- Dubai Municipality is teaming up with shopping malls to end e-cigarette use in the city's malls.

Mall security have been directed to clamp down on e-cigarette smoking indoors and at mall entrances, in response to customer complaints. The sale and import of e-cigarettes is banned in the UAE.

Some 2,000 products pulled from Abu Dhabi shelves

The National -- More than 2,000 dangerous and low quality products have been recalled by the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council.

The council pulled 2,463 household goods from shelves that will be returned to the country of origin or destroyed. The council did not specific what types of products had been recalled.

An additional 7,334 products were temporarily withdrawn to improve their safety and quality.
