Endangered Arabian humpback spotted off Dubai coast

The National -- A female humpback whale and a small calf have been sighted one kilometre off the coast of Dubai.

The sighting is the first confirmed live record of the highly-endangered species in the Arabian Gulf waters of the UAE, according to marine biologist Robert Baldwin, who studies the whales and dolphins of the UAE and Oman, WAM, the UAE state news agency reported.

The mother and calf were filmed by a local resident and the video was posted on Instagram.

Bodies of Emirati pilots killed in Yemen arrive in UAE

The bodies of two Emirati pilots who died when their aircraft crashed in Yemen arrived at Al Bateen Executive Airport on Wednesday.

Major Pilot Ali Al Mesmari and First Lieutenant Pilot Badr Al Marasheda were killed as a result of the accident, which was caused by a technical fault, the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces said on Tuesday.

The National -- A motorist in Ras Al Khaimah accumulated more than one million dirham in traffic fines this year, police said on Wednesday.

The feat sets the record for the most traffic offences committed by a single driver over the past few years, according to the commander-in-chief of RAK Police.
