Tourist killed by shark off Egyptian Red Sea resort

A Czech dad has been killed by a shark while swimming in the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt.

The tourist's body was found on Marsa Alam beach, according to local media.

City council chairman General Atef Wagdy said the man died "as a result of an attack by a shark" and warned that people who swim on the surface in deep waters beyond the coral are "vulnerable to attack".

The health ministry is coordinating handing over the body to the Czech embassy, Wagdy confirmed.

UAE astronaut candidates begin intensive physical testing in Russia

The final nine candidates vying to become the UAE’s first astronauts have arrived in Moscow for medical and physical testing.

They will undergo “mission-specific medical tests” for three weeks at the Russian State Organisation, Gagarin Research and Test Cosmonaut Training Centre and at the Institute of Biomedical Problems.

The rigorous exams include ultrasounds, electrocardiograms and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, hearing and sinus tests.

A British tourist ran up Dh175,000 in traffic fines in less than four hours after being caught driving at nearly twice the speed limit in a Lamborghini Huracan on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The driver, 25, broke the speed limit 33 times only hours after he rented the Dh1.3 million car from the Saeed Ali Rent a Car dealership.

Dubai Police records showed the tourist drove between 126kph and 230kph, triggering every radar on his way.
